What to Know about Painting High Ceilings?

Painting your ceiling can get a little bit tricky, not to mention, unsafe. If you’re painting your ceilings, you’ll want to make sure that you’re doing so safely and properly. After all, it’s hard to hide a bad ceiling paint job. Here are some things you need to know about painting your high ceilings.

Preparation Is Key

All great projects need some preparation. Before you get started on painting your high ceilings, take some time to plan everything out and prepare the room to be painted. What type of paint will you be using? Do you have all the right tools to paint your high ceilings? Also, make sure to move out or cover all pieces of furniture in the room so that they don’t get any paint on them.

Get the Right Equipment

The equipment you use to paint your high ceilings will determine the quality of the paint job. Just having a few brushes and a standard roller won’t cut it. What exactly you’ll need is determined by the size of the space and the height of your ceilings. Sometimes you can get away with using a ladder but other times, higher ceilings may require scaffolding. Getting a sprayer may also make painting your high ceilings a bit easier.

Determine Your Method

How high your ceilings are will determine the method you use to paint them. Ceilings that are ten feet and under can be painted using long-handled rollers. Ceilings that are between 10 to 18 feet tall will definitely require a ladder. Ceilings that are over 18 feet usually require some scaffolding.

Will you use a primer? If your ceilings are old or yellow, you probably don’t need to. In most cases, you can go straight into applying your topcoat without a primer. This can be done using a roller or a brush while standing on a ladder or some sort of scaffold. Pay close attention to the edges to ensure that your paint job looks clean and neat.

Get It Professionally Painted

Painting your high ceilings is a lot of work and takes meticulous attention to detail. For this reason, a lot of homeowners choose to have professional painters do it for them. They have special equipment to get the job done right so that you don’t have to worry about getting on an elevated surface and risk bodily harm.
